When Larry Pokorny started experiencing heart problems, he visited the Columbus Community Hospital emergency room expecting to be sent somewhere else.
Instead, he was relieved to learn CCH cardiologists could treat him right there.
The 76-year-old’s main symptoms were pain and irregular patterns while breathing. Dr. Debanshuh Roy, a cardiologist with Columbus Cardiology Clinic, knew exactly what to do.
“I went into the ER because I could not breathe,” Pokorny said. “Through testing, they discovered I was experiencing extreme inflammation of the heart. Dr. Roy, in simplest terms, put a needle in my heart and drained the fluid surrounding my heart.”
After undergoing the procedure with Dr. Roy, Pokorny has been seeing Dr. Sabu George for all his follow-up appointments.
“Dr. George is a very well-informed doctor,” Pokorny said. “Dr. George and his nurse practitioner, Sarah Huettner, had me do a lot of walking and made certain I could take multiple steps to get into my house. My therapy mainly consisted of taking it little by little to build up my stamina and endurance to walk.”
Pokorny is thanking his lucky stars for Columbus Cardiology Clinic. “I am so glad these doctors are here,” he said. “There are a lot of people who are unaware of the care they can receive locally, just as I was.”
Pokorny looks forward to receiving any future necessary care right here in Columbus.
“Columbus has its own professional, well-informed, incredible cardiologists, which means I will be going here again, if need be,” he said. “I will definitely call here first to seek help, rather than going out of town.”
As he has gotten older, Pokorny said, he has had more difficult traveling.
“At my age, I do not like to travel to big cities,” he said. “Having to drive to Lincoln or Omaha for my appointments would almost be unbearable. Having my cardiologist here in town is extremely beneficial.”
